چکیده

The incidence of a high percentage of negative rose bengal test (~BT~ sera which showed a high titre in the serum agglutmat10n (SAT) and complement fixation tests. (CFf). was noted in certain batches of sera during routme testmg for bo~ine brucellosis. As a similar phe~omenon has not previously been recorded, an investigation was undertaken to establish whether in this case a prozone reaction like that described in other tests (Plackett & Alton, 1975) was present.

Comparison of the sensitivity and specifity of modified Rose Bengal and ELISA test in the diagnosis of brucellosis

Background and Aim: Brucellosis is a zoonotic disease and is one of the major health problems in our country. Considering its nonspecific symptoms, diagnosis of this disease is often made by laboratory methods. The purpose of the present study was to compare the sensitivity and specificity of ELISA and a relatively new modified Rose Bengal test in the diagnosis of brucellosis. Material and Meth...

Oruierstepoort Journal of Veterinary Research, 49, 23--28 (1982). The use of the serum agglutination test (SAT) as a 2nd screening test led to a reduction in false negative screening reactions especially in sera delayed in transit and pr...

The Rose Bengal Test in Human Brucellosis: A Neglected Test for the Diagnosis of a Neglected Disease

Brucellosis is a highly contagious zoonosis affecting livestock and human beings. The human disease lacks pathognomonic symptoms and laboratory tests are essential for its diagnosis. However, most tests are difficult to implement in the areas and countries were brucellosis is endemic. Here, we compared the simple and cheap Rose Bengal Test (RBT) with serum agglutination, Coombs, competitive ELI...

Buffered plate antigen test as a screening test for diagnosis of human brucellosis.

Brucellosis in Argentina is currently investigated in bank donor blood by the standard plate agglutination test (PAT). This study evaluated the buffered plate antigen test (BPA), now used to screen for bovine brucellosis, as a screen for human disease. Of 57 sera from patients with culture-confirmed brucellosis, 100% were detected with the BPA. Of 142 sera positive by rose bengal (RB) and compl...

Specificity dependence between serological tests for diagnosing bovine brucellosis in Brucella-free farms showing false positive serological reactions due to Yersinia enterocolitica O:9.

When brucellosis false positive serological reactions happen in cattle, the serial use of pairs of specificity-correlated serological tests (rose bengal, complement fixation, competitive ELISA) results in specificities lower than expected. In this situation, highly specific tests, such as the indirect ELISA used alone, may be more adequate than serial testing.
